This was my first canine disc competition or dog catching Frisbee championship. I just like to call it the flying dog show. when you see the competition and photos you'll know what I mean.
This is a great time for the whole family. The dogs were amazing and fun to watch. They came in all sizes, colors and breeds. The only thing that was unpleasant to watch was that some of the dog owners had very poor Frisbee skills, and Frisbee skills are very important since they're about 50% of the competition. They need to practice a lot more with those smaller competition dog Frisbees so that they donít make their dogs look so bad. All in all, I love dogs and I love to throw the Frisbee, so I could see myself one day becoming a competitor.
The competition lasts around 5 hours. So be prepared with food, water and something comfortable to sit on.
This competition had 3 different events. Each one having different levels of expertise from beginner to expert. The first event was the technical one where you had to throw the Frisbee through hoops, Tubes, skip it off a flat surface and throw around an obstacle. You also had a chance for extra points if your dog caught the Frisbee in a small square that was marked on the grass. The second event was a time and accuracy challenge. Each dog has to catch as many Frisbees as you can throw with in a certain amount of time and also catch them at different distances and areas. The third event was free style to music. Each owner and their dog were doing all kinds of tricks. Each event had several judges and the competitors where judge in several different areas. It was really fun to watch.
I suggest visiting the links below and reading their guidelines if you are thinking about being a competitor or thinking about joining a club or attending a competition.
