Here are some suggestions when buying outdoor gear for all your adventures. When searching for that perfect outdoor gear itís a good idea to do your homework and to do some comparison-shopping so that you get the gear that best suites your needs. Also talk to several people who sell and have experience with outdoor gear and always try to get more then one opinion.
To find info and reviews on outdoor gear try the Links Below or BackPacker Magazines "Gear GuideĒ issue. You can read about some excellent buying tips and be able to search products using your own criteria, like gear thatís light, durable and has all the features that you're interested in.
For example, anyone who has been on an extended hike knows that weight is everything. So I used the rating system from Backpackers Gear Guide Issue to my advantage. I started my research by looking for light weight hiking boots. I began by circling each boot that weighed less than 2 lbs. and was rated for at least rough trail hiking. I also considered other factors like comfort, water resistance and material. That narrowed it down to a few with one of them being the Dunham Light Weight Hiking Boots. Comes in half sizes with multiple widths. A half size bigger boot can accommodate for the Extra Thick Reinforced Hiking Socks which help protect your feet against blistering on those long hikes. What a difference! When I received my boots in the mail it felt like the box was empty, it wasnít of coarse. When I first hiked with them It was like hiking in sneakers except with the durability and support of a hiking boot.
So now Iím using the same guide lines to help me decide on my next Light Backpack, 2 Person Backpacking Tent and a 0 Degree Sleeping Bag that's warm and light for backpacking. There's also some really cool sleeping bags from Big Agnes. You can zipper 2 bags together and they also have a built in sleeve for your pad so you wont slide off it during the night. There's also a cool book to read on how to Make your own Gear if you're ever in a jam.
So good luck on your outdoor gear search and if you need any help please feel free to drop us a line with any questions. Thank you, Howie
